The cottage is situated in the south east parish of Deerness with its
Mull Head Nature Reserve and archaeological site at Mine Howe to whet
your appetite. The well stocked village shop is 5 minutes away, the
Quoyburray Inn excellent for bar meals just 10 minutes away and picnics
at the beautiful sandy beaches at Newark Bay or Dingieshowe 1 mile away
- all contribute to relaxing and enjoying the island atmosphere. For a
little extra activity the capital of Kirkwall with the magnificent St
Magnus Cathedral can be reached in 20 minutes.
Ferries take just over an hour to cross the scenic Pentland Firth and bring you in to either St Margaret's Hope (20 minutes from cottage) or Stromness (40 minutes). The airport is 10 minutes drive. As in all rural areas there is a limited bus service so a car is recommended.
